111 jobs won’t qualify for skilled worker visas this month – is yours one of them? ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

The Government’s Immigration White Paper, unveiled in May, introduced sweeping measures to reform the immigration system, including raising the threshold for skilled worker visas.

A temporary shortage list will be introduced until the end of 2026 for jobs below degree level that ministers claim are key to building critical infrastructure or industrial strategy.

The changes, if approved by MPs and peers, will come into force from 22 July.

Healthcare, hospitality, and education are among the sectors hit by the changes, as well as those working in childcare and mental health.

“However, this is just an interim arrangement: the Migration Advisory Committee will review the list, and it’s possible it will be narrowed down.”

“Labour’s plans may increase the supply of domestic skills, but this will not automatically mean fewer migrant workers. It may simply mean that employers hire more workers overall and that their industry expands.”

Here, The i Paper takes a closer look at the jobs that will no longer qualify for the visa.
