Molly McCann has joined forces with Eddie Hearn as she prepares to make the transition to professional boxing.

The Liverpudlian competed 14 times (7-7) for the UFC during a 7-year stint with MMA‘s premier promotion.

However, she hung up her gloves in March after falling to a first-round submission loss against Brazil’s Alexia Thainara at UFC London.

McCann hinted that she may turn her hand to boxing in the immediate aftermath of her last outing, and that decision has now been made official with the announcement that ‘Meatball’ has signed a deal with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

Dropping the bombshell news during a recent appearance alongside McCann on DAZN, Hearn said: “This is all about Molly McCann, the official announcement that boxing is next.

“She has officially signed with Matchroom Boxing. Molly McCann will compete now as a boxer.

“It is about time as well. [She is] a former ABA champion; everyone knows her ability as a boxer.

“Obviously, she has been a massive star within the UFC, which has grown her profile globally.

“We are delighted to start the journey with her. We are going to fighting her all around the world, and there are going to be some massive nights.

“I had the pleasure of watching her cageside in the UFC, and the atmosphere, the energy and the fanbase of this woman is incredible.

“Great person, great fighter, and now putting the gloves on for real. The boxing journey is about to begin.”

Prior to her professional MMA career, McCann got her start in amateur boxing.

She compiled a 17-0 record in the squared circle and picked up an ABA title in 2009 before switching to MMA during her university years.

McCann went on to win a Cage Warriors flyweight title in her eighth pro MMA fight and was snapped up by the UFC in 2018.

She quickly became one of the most popular MMA stars on British shores alongside close friend and training partner Paddy Pimblett.

The duo shared several big cards together, and while Pimblett has shot himself up into title contention with a win over Michael Chandler, McCann was never able to get anywhere near UFC gold.

The 35-year-old enjoyed some good spells, including two three-fight winning streaks.

But by the time she called time on her MMA career, she had lost four of her last five fights.
