Golf has evolved more than any sport on the planet – and much of that has to do with the gear.
Not only has equipment changed a lot since the days of hickory-shafted drivers, but the clothes are very different, too.
Craghoppers have a new golf range and I tested it outCraghoppers Golf range
BUY HEREGone are the days of sweater-vests, flat-caps, high socks and three-quarter-length shorts (besides the odd grandad who still thinks he is Ben Hogan).
Now, golfing attire is specifically designed to reflect the increasing levels of athleticism required for the modern game.
Technology extends beyond golf clubs – and clothing manufacturers are constantly breaking new ground to make players more comfortable on the course.
That is the unique selling point of Craghoppers’ new golf range – which claims to offer something completely revolutionary for the market.
Known for their outdoor clothing and protective adventure gear, Craghoppers have taken their NosiLife technology and applied it to a collection designed specifically for golfers.
As someone who likes golf and not being bitten by insects, I thought I would give it a go.
How I tested Craghoppers’ golf clothing range
Before stating the obvious, that I wore the golf clothes to play golf, I specifically chose to test the Santos Trouser II, Bramshaw Golf Long Sleeved Polo Top and the Long Sleeved Golf Mock Neck Top in one complete outfit.
Upon receiving my order, I assessed the quality, style, comfort and fit – before heading to the course for a late evening round (it is hot and I was testing long-sleeves + trousers with a base layer).
There, I analysed the breathability, stretch, feel and effectiveness of the gear.
Afterwards, I matched all of this information against the price, to give a fair assessment of value.

Craghoppers, known for their innovative outdoor clothing, has brought their expertise to the golf course.
From the very start of my testing, the Craghoppers’ golf range thoroughly impressed.
The first thing that struck me was the premium feel and comfort of each piece, offering an athletic fit that doesn’t restrict movement like other golf apparel can.
The built-in insect repellent technology, along with UPF50+ sun protection the clothing provides, gave me more confidence on the course, knowing I was fully protected.
My only complaints are the somewhat unadventurous designs of the clothing – it’s all very safe – and, for my budget, the price point is a little steep.
That said, Craghoppers new golf range is definitely one to consider given the premium quality and in-built UPF and insect-bite protection, especially for those playing in sunnier climates or ‘buggier’ areas.
Craghoppers’ golf clothing range: Full review
It was immediately clear upon receiving my order that this was high-quality clothing. And it smelled lovely.
As someone who mainly wears cheaper and more mainstream golf gear, these items instantly became the softest clothes in my wardrobe (which perhaps says more about my standards).
The Santos Trouser surprised me – in a good way – because they fit like trousers I would wear out socially.
I was concerned the slim fit style would not be comfortable on the golf course – but because they are so light – they look and feel fantastic.
As for the Bramshaw Golf Long Sleeved Polo Top, it is similarly light and comfy, offering a nice fit without being too tight.
My one criticism would be that the designs are very safe and not particularly interesting.
Blue or white are the only colours available – so if you want to go full Ian Poulter and make a bit of a statement on the golf course – this clothing range probably isn’t for you.
The clothes look stylish and were super comfortable to play golf inCraghoppers NosiLife Bramshaw Golf Long Sleeved Polo Top, £55
BUY HEREHowever, if you want to look a little bit less like you have all the gear and no idea, then this could be the understated look you’re after – it is perfectly stylish without being in-your-face.
If you are also looking for something that might lift your golf game, look no further.
I’m one of those people who blame poor shots on everything other than my golf swing.
“This waterproof is too noisy, this t-shirt is too tight”… but not today.
If, like me, you are not accustomed to golf clothes which cost this much – you will notice an immediate impact on your performance.
I didn’t realise how most of my golf clothing actually restricts my movement until wearing these clothes.
More specifically, the Santos Trouser allowed me to get a full hip turn.
Even as the temperature rose, the lightness and breathability of the fabric meant I barely noticed.
I can confirm I did not get bitten by any insects – and as expected, Craghoppers had all the bases covered on protective clothing that is suitable and optimal for the outdoors – including UPF 50+ protection.
But I was particularly impressed with how the range matched up to the specific needs of a golfer.
And knowing that I could rely on my gear led to a more confident golf swing. Just a shame that golf swing is still rubbish.
The clothes allowed me to play with confidenceCraghoppers NosiLife Santos Trouser II, £80
BUY HEREBesides the lack of imagination on the designs, this is my only other criticism: the clothes are expensive.
£50 is a lot for a mock neck top and while the Long Sleeved Golf Mock Neck Top is a brilliant base layer, there are plenty of significantly cheaper alternatives.
The Santos Trouser is fantastic – but again – £80 is a bit steep, in my opinion.
The Bramshaw Golf Long Sleeved Polo Top comes in at £55 and that feels like slightly better value for money, while the short-sleeved t-shirts are a bit cheaper at £50.
I didn’t try the fleeces and half-zip tops as it was objectively too hot for that – they range between £70 and £80 – but those could also offer value closer to what you would usually expect in that market.
The Craghoppers website is the obvious place to go for the range, which can be found here.
While you’re there, you can read more about what the brand have to say, rather than take it from me.
It is not currently available on any other website.
The verdict
My main takeaway was that spending a bit more money on golf clothing can be worth it.
Higher quality does have a genuine impact on your performance – with increased stretch, lightness and breathability.
You will be surprised by how comfortable these clothes are – given all the technology packed into them.
Craghoppers have also done a great job on making the fit incredibly slick and stylish.
Luckily I like wearing blue and white, but that is all they’ve got for you.
Overall, I would say that if you’re after something that ticks every box – including insect and UV protection – then I would highly-recommend all three items I tested from the new Craghoppers golfing range – especially the Santos Trouser.
If you are less fussy about how your golf clothes feel and how they protect you, there are cheaper alternatives out there.
