The Hart family have been left “crushed” after a commemorative plaque was stolen from the famous Hart House in Calgary.

The plaque, which had been mounted on the brick walls of the historic mansion for decades, was taken in what the family have described as a heartbreaking act of vandalism and theft.

The British Bulldog was a part of the extended Hart FamilyWWE

Georgia Smith, daughter of the late WWE legend ‘British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith, posted about the incident on Instagram — calling for help and expressing her devastation.

Her father, who was married to one of the 12 children belonging to the iconic Hart family, Diana, wrote: “It makes me upset and mad to see this,” she wrote.

“Any info on who stole the plaques from the Hart House please contact @calgarypolice.”

She went on to add: “This is the last piece of my grandfather connected to that house.

“Our family is crushed that these were stolen off the property of Hart House. If anyone has any information, please reach out to any of us or the @calgarypolice.”

The plaque, which simply reads ‘Hart House’ in capital letters, is understood to have been mounted on the original family home of Stu Hart — the legendary patriarch who trained generations of wrestling talent inside the house’s infamous basement nicknamed the Dungeon.

The property was home to a dynasty that shaped the world of professional wrestling, Bret and Owen Hart growing up there alongside Diana and the rest of the grappling family, while countless others are connected to the location which is woven deeply into grappling folklore, both in Canada and globally.

The Hart Dungeon became one of the most renowned and unforgiving training grounds in wrestling history.

Overseen by the formidable Stu, the Dungeon gained a reputation for its brutal submission holds, gruelling conditioning, and no-nonsense approach to shaping future stars.

It produced a remarkable lineage of talent, including WWE legends Bret and Owen, as well as future champions such as Chris Jericho, Edge, Christian, Natalya, Tyson Kidd, Mark Henry, and even Davey Boy Smith himself.

The Dungeon’s influence extended well beyond Canada, with its alumni helping shape multiple eras of WWE, from the New Generation to the Attitude Era and beyond

Hart House itself has long stood as a monument to that legacy.

Though it was sold to the city in the late 2000s, it remains a symbol of the family’s roots — and a site of pilgrimage for fans of the wrestling industry.

Even those now there had resolved to keep the iconic plaque adorned to the property’s front wall, Smith later adding in a reply to the post that the owners had returned from a family vacation to find ‘the bricks being vandalized and the plaques stolen.’

The theft has sparked outrage among wrestling supporters and locals alike, with many voicing hopes that the stolen item can be recovered and restored.

“That’s the worst,” one fan wrote. Hopefully everything gets restored to the glory that the wonder house deserves.”

Another added: “I’m heartbroken for you. I really hope you find the ones whom took it. Pity Stu isn’t around to give them a stretch in the dungeon.”

For the Hart family, it’s not about the value of the item — but what it represents.

“It’s about the history, the memories, the respect,” one fan wrote under Georgia’s post. “That plaque wasn’t just a sign. It was a part of wrestling’s foundation.”
