Yulia Putintseva was left in floods of tears as she suffered a ruthless humiliation on the opening day at Wimbledon.

Putintseva failed to win a single game in her first-round defeat against Amanda Anisimova on Monday.

She was beaten 6-0, 6-0 in a clash that lasted just 45 minutes.

And it was when Anisimova was within one more game of victory that Putintseva’s emotions got the better of her.

The 30-year-old sat down during the changeover and broke down into tears into her towel.

She covered her face and wiped tears away before getting back up to carry on and see out the rest of the match.

Anisimova would continue her ruthless streak afterwards though, winning the final game with ease again.

It handed her opponent the dreaded ‘double-bagel’.

The Kazakh only managed to win 21 points in the entire match, making 14 unforced errors throughout.

She also recorded just one winner over the course of the contest.

This was her second career defeat without winning a single game, with the only other occasion coming in 2017 against Alize Cornet at the WTA New Haven tournament.

After her loss was confirmed, Putintseva and 13th seed Anisimova shook hands before the former rushed off court.

That was a much nicer finish compared to what Putintseva had been through just before Wimbledon began.

At the Bad Homburg Open last week, she was knocked out in the first round too, but things turned sour afterwards.

Her opponent, Maria Sakkari, exclaimed ‘nobody likes you’ to Putintseva during a heated handshake in Germany.

That came as the pair traded insults at the net, with tempers flaring following comments from both players.

The umpire was forced to step in and prevent it going any further.

Putintseva then replied on social media, as tensions continued to spill into the online world following their match.

It wasn’t an ideal build-up to Wimbledon for the World No.33 and that could have had an impact on her first-round exit.

She had also lost in the second round of the Nottingham Open and first round at Queens ahead of the Grand Slam at SW19.

Her emotional exit this year followed what was her best-ever finish at Wimbledon in 2024.

Putintseva reached the fourth round last year after only managing to get to the second round in her previous nine appearances.

But it’s back to an early exit this time around and it came in a fashion that no tennis player wants to experience.

She will hope to bounce back in the doubles at SW19, with her first game with partner Peyton Stearns coming on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Anisimova will now take on Renata Zarazua in the second round of the singles at Wimbledon on the same day.
