The Egyptian Cabinet’s Media Center responded on Friday rumors claiming that the state intends to privatize public universities, in order to reduce the number of students in theoretical faculties.
The Media Center confirmed that that the government will not privatize public universities, and no official decisions have been issued in this regard.
The Center emphasized that state ownership of these universities will continue, as Egypt continues its efforts to develop the education system, while providing advanced educational services based on quality assurance for all.
The center indicated that work is underway to develop the curricula across various faculties, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
It also noted the increase in the number of public universities, now up to 28, covering all governorates of the republic.
The center highlighted that efforts to develop the higher education system also focus on promoting scientific and technological specializations, which are increasingly in demand in the labor market, to ensure a balance between educational outcomes and development requirements, thereby improving performance within universities.
