Combat sports are known to be dangerous, but sometimes it isn’t your opponent you should be worried about.
Unfortunately for ex-ONE Championship standout Ivan Parshikov, he found that out the hard way when he suffered a brutal electric shock following a win at a Weed Boxing event in Thailand.
XThe Russian didn’t know what he was in for when he grabbed the pole[/caption]Footage of Parshikov went viral on social media as he was briefly frozen stiff upon touching a ringside light.
During his post-fight celebration in Thailand Parshikov reacted the way most MMA fighters would, by jumping on the ropes to celebrate.
For some bizarre reason, the ring was surrounded by water.
It meant that upon leaping onto the ropes to grab the ringside light, Parshikov got the shock of his life.
He immediately crashed to the canvas outside the ropes as his body went limp.
Thankfully Parshikov was able to let go of the light, although a loud buzzing could be heard in the clip.
Thankfully, he wasn’t electrocuted, despite what several outlets and social media posts have claimed.
Electrocution refers to death or serious injury caused by electricity. In Parshikov’s case, he was shocked but recovered within moments.
Strangely enough, his immediate reaction was to dive into the surrounding water despite the obvious risk it could still be electrically charged.
Electric shocks can cause delayed fatalities by way of heart rhythm problems and other complications.
XHe tumbled off the ropes and onto the canvas, but was thankfully OK[/caption]Luckily he was able to seek immediate medical attention.
Parshikov’s life most certainly flashed before his eyes as he dropped from the ropes, after taking his professional record to 16-5-0.
His last two meetings in the cage resulted in losses.
Parshikov’s latest loss in the cage came in 2024 against Kazakbai Tilenov.
Prior to that, he suffered defeat against Ben Royle in 2023.
But having been out of action for over a year, he more than made a shocking return to combat sport.
