The Topanga Vintage Market was ready for the first weekend of summer on Sunday, June 22, at Pierce College in Woodland Hills.

Flea market enthusiasts enjoyed searching the vendor booths for collectibles or that special something that caught their eye.

The market, co-founded by Patrice Curedale and Lori Rotblatt, was launched in April 2012 and initially was located at the corner of Westfield Promenade in Woodland Hills.

“You never know what you’ll find. It’s a wild mix,” said Curedale, who estimated that about 3,000 people shop for items at the fourth Sunday of the month market. She added that there are about 4,000 people who are signed up to receive the market’s monthly reminder (since some months have a fifth Sunday).

At Sunday’s market, shoppers may have been looking, in particular, for summer clothing, and market vendors offered vintage home decor, glassware, musical instruments, designer purses, vinyl records, as well as seasonal items and other collectibles.

For families with children or adults looking for toys from their childhood, Fisher-Price, Lego characters and sets and Hot Wheels are sometimes to be found at booths specializing in vintage toys.

The market also includes new items from local artisans including art, birdhouses, candles and jewelry. In addition, Curedale said that some shoppers have told her they come for the food trucks.

“It’s become a real big part of the Valley. It’s family-friendly. It’s a big social thing. It also helps so many vendors to supplement their income,” said Curedale about the 13-year-old flea market that is a “gab-fest” and a chance to get outside and be with people.

The Topanga Vintage Market is held on the fourth Sunday of the month (upcoming dates, July 27, Aug. 24 and Sept. 28). Hours: 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission $5; free for ages 12 and younger. No pets allowed. Free parking. Pierce College, enter at Victory Boulevard Boulevard at Mason Avenue, Woodland Hills, 310-422-1844, topangavintagemarket.com.
