Continued paving of major Ukiah streets as part of the city’s Urban Core Project will necessitate the complete closure of the intersection of State and Gobbi streets, city officials reported.
In an update emailed Thursday morning, officials reported that “the soft parts on West Gobbi Street were dug out and re-paved with the bottom lift. The final lift will be paved (Thursday) night.”
Also, there will be grinding on East Gobbi Street, with night paving continuing though Friday night, and officials noted that there will be “a full closure of the State/Gobbi intersection from 8 p.m. (Thursday) to 6 a.m. (Friday) for paving.”
The work will also cause “intermittent closures and one-way traffic at times through Friday” on both West and East Gobbi streets.” Once the paving is complete, officials note that “the remainder of the project in this area includes raising the irons, striping, creating an enhanced pedestrian crossing at the Rail Trail, and landscaping.”
City officials again thanked residents “for your continued patience,” and apologized that “a few of you did not receive the update that was sent on Friday, June 20.”

Striping will occur beginning the week of July 7. With Gobbi Street completed, the reconstruction of Main Street will begin roughly on July 3. The work of grinding out the old pavement and laying base rock will take roughly ten days, and will begin at Norton or progress to the south. There will be lane and/or block closures in the areas of construction, but the street will be driveable when work is not in progress. Following grinding, there will be approximately eight days of laying base rock. Again, the street will be open when not actively under construction.
