The angry customer slammed the joint, claiming that there is “no excuse” for the pricing or the added fees they were forced to pay.

The story was shared on social media to hundreds of reactions, with many falling on different sides when it comes to the two separate payments.

It involves a trip to Bubba, and after the customer finished, he noticed he had been charged an extra 2.75% for using a credit card to pay, and an extra $1 for additional sauce.

The post on Facebook said: “But when I got the bill I noticed two things that bug me.

“1) we were charged a $1 bc we asked for additional sauce for the fried green tomatoes.

“2) the 2.75% add-on charge for credit card use. I get that margins can be razor thin at restaurants.

“And given that Credit cards are not new, they represent the vast majority of transactions and you know that, price your food as if people are going to use credit cards and don’t ask for additional money to help cover the fee, or put a message on the top of the menu that states that you prefer cash, and that you charge this fee.

“Second asking for a dollar for an additional sauce is a bush league discount restaurant move.

“When you’re charging $35 a person, without alcohol, you shouldn’t need an extra $1 for sauce.

“Especially when you don’t provide enough to start with.”

The extra charge was a credit card was reported in another diner’s rant recently, as he was left questioning what the 2.75% add-on was for.

MIXED REACTION

In the comments of the post, many seemed against the idea of a 2.75% credit card charge, but understood the $1 sauce charge.

Many agreed with the diner in their call to have this added into the standard price of the food.

One person wrote: “I, too, am a hater of the credit card fee being on the ticket. Price your menu correctly and this shouldn’t be a problem.”

And another said: “Credit card fees should be illegal. Price accordingly. Some states actually outlaw them and encourage them to be reported.”

Top 5 receipt checking tips from a lawyer

Camron Dowlatshahi, a Los Angeles attorney, spoke to The U.S. Sun about receipt checks and customer's rights and options when it came to being asked to show your receipt.

There has been a lot of debate around the legality of a retailer asking to see your receipt, but if it is within the store, it is completely legal. “There’s seemingly nothing illegal about that. You’re still on the company’s premises and their reason to do it is to prevent thefts,” Dowlatshahi confirms. However, if they are chasing you out of the store, that changes things, Dowlatshahi said. “Location matters,” he explained. “If you’re outside of the store you’re in the parking lot and they come and start accusing you of theft and that you have to show your receipt, I think that’s a bit of a different situation because now you’re on your way.” While customers are allowed to say no to receipt checks, it may cause issues if you do and the store suspects you of stealing. “You can say no, maybe it creates an unnecessary hassle for yourself because now you may have the police come to your house and follow up,” said Dowlatshahi. If you are being barred from leaving a store because you refused a receipt check, you could have a legal case — but the store must have held you for a long time. “Let’s say it’s for hours, that’s certainly false imprisonment, and they didn’t have any impetus for doing so,” Dowlatshahi explained. “If a customer has been emotionally traumatized by being held for false imprisonment, I would definitely encourage [them] to sue.” “I would say, show your receipt,” he concluded. “It’s just a really simple thing to do. If you didn’t steal anything, it’s relatively simple to do,” the lawyer advised.

But more than one person defended Bubba in the comments, stating that the restaurants cannot win on either charge.

A comment argued: “Restaurants can’t win. Sauce isn’t free to make. Why should it be free when you want “extra”?

“Also, if they charge more for the food to cover credit card processing fees then people complain.

“If they charge a fee, people complain. It’s literally a no win situation.”

And the credit card charge had more defenders: “Credit card fees for businesses are part of the cost of doing business.”

Many argued in favor of the sauce charge: “It’s pretty common now to be charged for extras.”

Someone else chimed in with this sentiment: “You absolutely should be charged for house-made sauces beyond the included portion. I’ll die on that hill.”

A third Facebook user also landed on this side of the argument: “Charging for additional sauce costs the restaurant money.

“I don’t think it’s fair to have them lose money to give away product.”
