Carrie Coon Says She Is Offered 'Older' Roles Due to Lack of Botox ...Middle East

Carrie Coon is getting candid about aging in Hollywood and the roles she’s offered.

In a new interview with Glamour magazine published on Monday, June 23, the Gilded Age star, 44, admitted to being typecast as more mature characters that are often described as “complex.”

“We all have a way we present in the world. The perception of me is that I am verbal, intellectual. My voice is lower and I don’t have botox, so I tend to play older than I am,” Coon said. “And so I’ve always had a gravitas or some authority.”

Coon is perhaps best known for playing the forbidding Bertha Russell on HBO’s The Gilded Age and, more recently, high-powered corporate lawyer Laurie on The White Lotus season 3. However, she said she couldn’t be more different from the mature characters she plays.

“To my family, I am just a goofball,” said the actress. “It’s surprising when they see the sort of goofier, sillier side of me on camera, which very rarely comes out in the roles I play. It sounds like I protest too much, but I’m easygoing. I’m very lighthearted.”

“I’m very silly. I’m a very silly mom,” Coon, who shares two children with husband Tracy Letts, shared.

Back in February, Coon turned heads when she accidentally insinuated that she and Letts, a playwright, were in an “open” marriage and quickly clarified via X.

“Settle down, internet! I said, ‘open minded’ not ‘open.’ ,” Coon wrote via X on February 25 after her remarks on the “WTF With Marc Maron” podcast caused a stir on social media.

During her interview, Coon detailed her and Letts’ dynamic, which she said includes dishing about their on-set crushes and pointing out people they’re attracted to regularly.

“We’re not jealous people. We don’t have any of those hang-ups,” Coon told listeners. “We didn’t ever want to be with the police. You know?”

“You kinda have to be open-minded about what makes you feel — what engages you in the world and what sparks your imagination and where your passion is,” she continued. “If you’re willing to stay open to that, then you’re living a more full life.”
