Nottingham Forest have rejected a bid from Newcastle United for Anthony Elanga, talkSPORT understands.
The Magpies submitted an offer worth £45million for the winger, who moved to the City Ground in 2023 from Manchester United.
Newcastle have expressed their interest in a move for ElangaGettyHowever, Forest do not want to sell the 23-year-old and would only entertain offers in excess of £60million.
It would mark a significant profit on the £15m fee they spent on the Sweden international two years ago.
Elanga has scored 11 goals for Forest and assisted another 21 across all competitions following his switch.
He shone throughout the 2024/25 campaign, with his 17 league goal contributions helping Forest secure Conference League qualification.
Despite making 55 appearances for United and winning the Carabao Cup, he revealed in December that he has no regrets about leaving.
“I made the right decision, 100 per cent,” he said to The Athletic. “I have not really spoken about this, but at the time at United, I was very young and I was coming into a team that was struggling.
“Yes, there was the thought that, ‘I am playing for Manchester United’. But I also never felt as though I was improving.
“I was playing for the sake of playing when I did get the odd opportunity off the bench.
“Coming to Forest was so big for me, because suddenly I was regularly playing 90 minutes, while having the opportunity to improve.
“When I played, I felt like I had purpose; like I was playing and improving in the process. That was the biggest change for me.
Elanga was one of Forest’s stars of the seasonGetty“I feel as though I know the league inside-out now, because I have had the chance to learn. I have no regrets, because I am enjoying playing fantastic football with this team.
“We are in a really good place at the moment.”
Newcastle’s interest in Elanga has followed speculation over the future of Anthony Gordon.
Liverpool are considering a move for the former Everton star in a deal that could cost them £100m.
Speaking on the Reds’ interest in Gordon, talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent Alex Crook hinted that it could be a costly deal.
“It’s one I’ve always kept in my back pocket, as one that could be revisited, because he was very close to joining Liverpool this time last year, really close,” Crook said.
Newcastle have seen their offer for Elanga rebuffed, howeverAFP“To the extent where the deal was down to the final stages, and I think Newcastle just decided, we actually can’t part company with this guy.
“So it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s still an itch there on Liverpool’s part that needs to be scratched.
“But I think it would take a big offer, and maybe they’re going to have to get players off the payroll before they would look at that.”
