The India vs England series is off to a flyer with the game at Headingley being evenly poised at the end of Day 3. The visitors were 90/2 after rain brought the play to a close, with Shubman Gill and Co leading by 96. Earlier, England responded with 465 thanks to a Ollie Pope century and a Harry Brook 99. For India, Jasprit Bumrah took 5 wickets despite not having much support from the fielders.
GOAT Jasprit Bumrah scales new heights
Jasprit Bumrah was the only shining light in India’s bowling display. The fast bowler picked up 5/83 as England plundered 465 in the 1st innings. This is after the 31-year-old saw 4 catches dropped off his bowling. Bumrah now has 150 wickets in SENA countries, the most by an Asian fast bowler. His 12 five-wicket hauls overseas are the joint most by an Indian, alongside former captain Kapil Dev. He currently averages under 20, and performances like Headingley only further his legacy as one of India’s greatest bowler.

Harry Brook was England’s main man as they looked to scale India’s 471 on Day 3. The England limited overs captain was dismissed for a duck on Day 2 but Jasprit Bumrah had overstepped to earn him a lifeline. The 24-year-old made full use of it, stroking a fine partnership with captain Ben Stokes and later with Jamie Smith.

— England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 22, 2025Brook’s charmed life earned a second reprieve, with Rishabh Pant spilling a sharp edge off Ravindra Jadeja. He later then went onto score a half-century. He was again dropped by Yashasvi Jaiswal on 83. Harry Brook looked set for a century when his luck ran out, with Prasidh Krishna bouncing him out on 99.
India’s nightmare day: Butter fingers and undercooked pacers

— The CricViz Analyst (@cricvizanalyst) June 22, 2025Jasprit Bumrah hardly had any support. While Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took the remaining 5 wickets, they were expensive and conceded in excess of 100. Siraj conceded at economy of 4.5 with Krishna conceding over 6 runs an over. The catching did not help, with a total of 6 catches dropped. Jaiswal himself dropped 3, while Sai Sudharsan, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja being the other culprits. India could have well taken a huge lead if they held onto their chances, but instead allowed England o claw back into the contest.
Sai Sudharsan’s forgettable debut

— England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 22, 2025Much was expected of Sai Sudharsan when he was named in the squad for the India vs England series. The young left-hander was handed a debut after stellar performances in the IPL and in County Cricket. However, that failed to materialise in the IND vs ENG 1st Test. Ben Stokes got him for a duck in the first innings with a legside ploy. In the second innings, he looked assured and stroked his way to 30, before falling for the same trap. The 23-year-old will be disappointed with his show on debut, and will hope to turn it around real soon. The left-hander however might not get another chance with the likes of Abhimanyu Easwaran and Dhruv Jurel waiting in the wings.
