I'll dive deep with you, sharing the best spiritual experiences, witchy shops, places to stay, eat, and drink, the best spot to get readings, and of course, other secretspots that only locals talk about.
Witchy Shops & Experiences
? Aura Photography at HausWitch
The best part of this LGBTQ+-owned shop? The aura photography readings! (Famous actress Zendaya, who has been spotted here before, would agree.)
The investment is worth it for the memory. On my birthday, my girlfriend surprised us with a "couple's aura reading," which included an aura polaroid photograph of the two of us together (proudly framed in our home) and polaroids of ourselves as individuals for us to keep. Our reader was kind and informative, taking the time to explain what each color, orb, and feature of our aura photo represented.
My girlfriend and I's couple aura photograph from HausWitch.? The Best Dark, Romantic Boutique? Nocturne!
Nocturne is the dark, romantic, gothic boutique of your Salem dreams, which has won over the hearts of many locals and tourists. When you go there, take your time smelling their homemade candles, colognes, and perfumes—you won't regret it. My favorite scent is Bergamusk. It is absolutely to die for and gets me the most compliments when I wear it. However, the fun doesn't end there. With Salem stickers, gorgeous Tarot decks, teas, and other aesthetic apparel, you have to experience this cute shop.
Nocturne is the most gorgeous Salem shop.I love their wide variety of Tarot and oracle decks for sale, with a large wall behind the cashier. My favorite part of this long-time, Salem classic metaphysical bookstore, gift shop, and metaphysical hub is their affordable crystal wall. With tumbled stones priced at $1.50 each, it's easy to stock up on these magical healers for your favorite rituals, to gift loved ones, or to just carry around. There's no more genuine, sweet, or small Salem souvenir!
? Celtic Magic & Whimsical Nature Vibes: The Coven's Cottage
?️ Advanced Witches, Manifestors, or Spiritualists: The Botancia & Hermetic Arts of Salem
The Hermetic Arts is my favorite botancia in Salem. The results are immediate whenever I grab a magical candle, spell, or ritual tool from here. While I've never gotten a reading with their popular Tarot readers, I can confirm their spiritual tools are far from gimmicky and backed by genuine spiritualists. Whenever I need help resolving a challenge in my life or want help manifesting results, the staff have also been invaluable.
Getting a Tarot or Astrology Reading
However, don't fret if you want a more on-the-whim experience. I have enjoyed every reading I've gotten attheZodiac Tearoom. While this spot is technically in Beverly, it's just over the bridge and minutes away from Salem. Here, you can get various spiritual services: tea leaf readings, Tarot readings, palm readings, mediumship, astrology readings, and more. I've even heard that they offer age-appropriate sessions for children.
You can go as a group, and they will serve you tea and pastries, or feel free to come with the intention of solo insight. I have gone with friends and family and enjoyed my experience with various readers who happened to be available, but you can also book ahead. And wait until you see their waiting room, which is romantic and gorgeous.
Zodiac Tea Room in Beverly, MA.This hotel is historic, and many guests have shared spooky stories about their experiences here. I personally spent time in one of the rooms, reading Tarot for a group of clients, and I could feel the energy of the space, keeping it short and sweet. If you’re looking for an authentic Salem experience, it’s worth treating yourself to a stay. The atmosphere is charged, and if you’re visiting Witch City, you’ll want to experience it for yourself. If you’re easily spooked, don’t worry; even those sensitive to energy find it gentler here, as if Salem's past lingers in the halls rather than presenting jump scares.
Food & Drinks in Salem
Looking for coffee or little bites? Check outOdd Meter. Bonus point: if you're willing to drive to Beverly, only about 10 minutes away from Salem, there is a small coffee shop,Kid Dream. For a quick bite, their toasts are yummy, and they have the best coffee and espresso.
? Chill Bites: Gulu-Gulu Cafe & Flying Saucer Pizza
Next door is Flying Saucer Pizza, which is connected to Gulu-Gulu as its sister restaurant. This pizza place is amazing and full of unique bites. I love that they have dairy-free and gluten-free pizzas for my friends with dietary restrictions. Everyone local I know loves this place.
? Bars or Lounges: Old Souls & Bit Bar
All Souls Lounge is an LGBTQ+-owned bar that many locals love. They are popular for their vintage-inspired cocktails and mocktails, dating back to 1882. Regardless of which day of the week you go, a crowd will chat it up over fun music from their vintage jukebox. This is one of the best spots to get together for a lively chat with friends, whether you sit at the bar or grab a table. I love their Tokyo hot dog.
Notch Brewing: Locals love this place! As a brewery, tap room, and beer garden, what's not to love?
? Sweets, Treats: Goodnight Fatty & Coffeetime Bake Shop
At the Carriage House in Salem, across from the Commons, lies Goodnight Fatty. Their amusing name and social media presence may make you giggle, but their cookies are no laughing matter. Grab a cup of milk (dairy or non-dairy) with an order of multiple flavored cookies, and thank me later.
There's more than meets the eye at Coffeetime Bake Shop. Don't let their no-frills vibe fool you. Every morning, the line extends outside their door, along their sidewalk, and it's for a good reason. Locals cherish this spot. Since they offer late hours, beat the crowd and go there for an after-dinner pastry, donut, or sweet treat.
Salem Willows: The Spot Tourists Miss Out on the Most
Get a prediction from the vintage Zoltan psychic horoscope game at Salem Willows.Even if you're not into games, strolling around the water, paved paths, grassy lawns, and onto the dock will surely lift your spirits. (Very dog-friendly, too). In the summer, you can find locals, including me, swimming and sunbathing on the shores.
