San Diego police detained five young service members early Saturday after several Linda Vista residents called 911 with reports of shots fired.
Officers responded around 5 a.m. and found three males walking on the street in the 2600 block of Nye Street, according to OnScene.TV.
When the men saw the police, they began to flee. The officers caught and detained two of them and saw the third run into a home.
Police called for the suspect to come out of the house and he complied. The three men admitted to firing shots from a handgun in a canyon behind the neighborhood. One of the suspects told the officers that the weapon was in the house, prompting a search.
Five people were detained, as two more men were found in the house, but police released the latter two after determining they were not involved in the shooting.
All five males are members of the U.S. military, but authorities did not say which branch.
