Jake Brown on embracing LSU’s spotlight: Nobody dreams about an empty ballpark ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Jake Brown knows all about the pressures of playing at LSU baseball. After growing up a fan of the Tigers, Brown joined the program as a prominent freshman for the 2024 season, and now he’s a key slugger for the program on the brink of something special.

That something special would be another College World Series title for the program after reaching the CWS Finals on Wednesday. The Tigers will face Coastal Carolina in a best-of-3 series, and LSU is the favorite at -190 in the latest College World Series odds. LSU is -160 in the Game 1 odds at bet365, and fans can use the bet365 Louisiana bonus code for great offers.

When it comes to performing in the spotlight, Brown understands it is a part of the territory in Baton Rouge. However, he also knows that no player grows up dreaming about playing in a lifeless arena.

“I would say nobody dreams about playing in an empty ballpark,” said Brown about navigating the spotlight on the Tigers. “When you’re a kid, when you’re taking swings in the backyard, when you’re doing all this stuff, you’re dreaming about playing in the biggest spotlight.

“That’s what LSU is. If you want the chance to come and play the closest thing to professional baseball at a college level, this is where you come.”

As for this year’s team, Brown described the group as “battle-tested” ahead of the start of the championship series. The Tigers wound up going 19-11 in SEC play after starting the season 22-1 overall. However, they are now 8-1 in the NCAA Tournament and have battled back time and time again.

“I would say that this is a really battle-tested team. We played in just about every type of baseball game from blowing people out to getting beat to coming back in games, to winning just by one run,” said Brown.

“I mean, it’s a team that’s really seen it all. I think it speaks to the toughness of our team… It’s a team that’s seen it all and is prepared to do anything. I think that’s going to help us in the long run.”

Things get rolling on Saturday night when Coastal and LSU start the CWS Finals. Game 1 is slated for 7 pm ET on ESPN, and fans can grab a free 30-day trial from FuboTV to catch all the coverage!
