In the dynamic world of Indian esports, few names resonate with consistency and skill quite like Gunjan “Jelly” Thakur. As the In-Game Leader (IGL) for Infinix True Rippers, Jelly has been a pivotal force, guiding his team through intense battles and consistently securing high finishes in major tournaments. INSIDESPORT recently had an exclusive opportunity to sit down with Jelly, delving into his personal journey, the significance of their groundbreaking partnership with Infinix, and their ambitions for the upcoming BMPS 2025 finale.
What does it mean to you personally to be part of the first-ever esports team partnership for Infinix in India?
I’ve been following Infinix’s journey for a while now, especially how the brand has consistently stood out for its commitment to mobile gaming. So, when the opportunity came to be part of their first-ever esports team partnership in India, it felt like a full-circle moment and it was both proud and exciting. With Infinix’s performance-first innovation backing us, we’re not just here to compete but also to inspire and lead the next wave of gamers who dare to dream big.

How important is 120 FPS support in your gameplay, especially during high-pressure BMPS 2025 moments?
In high-stakes tournaments like the BMPS 2025, every frame counts. 120 FPS support plays a crucial role in ensuring ultra-smooth gameplay, especially during intense close-combat situations or rapid rotations. We usually practice and compete in lobbies that are far more intense than classic games, and in those chaotic end zones, FPS stability becomes crucial. It allows us to perform at our highest potential without lags or drops. It gives us that split-second advantage in decision-making and precision, which can often be the difference between winning and getting knocked out. For aspiring gamers, we’d highly recommend 120 FPS-supported devices like the newly launched Infinix GT 30 Pro, which is also KRAFTON-certified for BGMI, making it a reliable choice for competitive gaming.

Krafton India Unveils BMPS 2025 Grand Finals LAN VenueHow has your gaming equipment evolved since you started playing professionally?
When I started playing, I didn’t have good devices and other equipment. In fact, I used to borrow my brother’s mobile and earphones to play. As my esports career progressed, I started receiving support from organisations, which meant I no longer needed to buy my own gear. Now, being signed by True Rippers and backed by a brand like Infinix, it feels great to finally have a powerful device like the GT 30 Pro that’s built for competitive gaming.
As a gamer, I’ve always looked for a device that delivers raw performance and a design that speaks to our community and that’s exactly what the GT 30 Pro offers. With features like 120 FPS support and a gaming-first design, it’s a reminder of how far mobile gaming gear has come.
Your consistency of high ranked finishes in the BMPS is something we have seen in the BGIS as well. What do you feel are the competitive differences between the two official tournaments?
The BGIS is a very deep-rooted and grassroots-level tournament where underdogs get an opportunity to showcase their talent. Hence, many groups are made accordingly in the earlier stages. On the other hand, BMPS is an invite-only tournament for professional athletes who have competed in previous officials. So, it’s a tough lobby compared to the BGIS, but we are pretty confident.
With a direct qualification from Round 1, the team has earned a few days off. How important is this downtime and how does the team utilize it?
Qualifying directly for BMPS 2025 Semi Finals Week 1 has definitely given us valuable downtime, but we’ve made sure to use it productively. Even though we made it through in one go, we’re fully aware of the mistakes we made in Round 1 and have been actively working to correct them. We haven’t taken a single day off from practice and after every practice session, we sit down with our coach to review our gameplay and fine-tune our strategy. This is our opportunity to reset, review our gameplay, and work on areas of improvement without the pressure of daily matches.
Coming off a 5th place finish at the BGIS 2025 in Kolkata, what are your goals for the New Delhi finale?
Finishing 5th at BGIS 2025 showed us how close we were to the top. We had a strong start in the first two days and were confident about closing out with a big performance on the final day. The points gap wasn’t huge and we genuinely had a shot at the podium, or even the win, with just one strong finish. For the upcoming LAN finale, our focus is on staying composed under pressure and giving 100% in every match. This time, we’re aiming to go all the way and lift the trophy.
