Former Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was once one of the up-and-coming prospects in the NFL. However, that all changed in the fall of 2021.
On a November night, Ruggs was driving his car at speeds in excess of 100 MPH when he crashed with a car driven by Tina Tintor. Tintor and her dog, Max, were killed in the accident. In the spring of 2023, Ruggs would plead guilty to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
On Tuesday evening, Ruggs appeared at a “Hope for Prisoners” event in Las Vegas and was asked what he would say to the family of Tintor if given the opportunity. Ruggs went on to issue an apology to the family and said he wishes they could have met “the real Henry Ruggs” instead of the individual involved in the crash that night.
“One, I wish I could turn back the hands of time,” Ruggs said in a video obtained by Vincent Bonsignore with The Las Vegas Review Journal. “I would love for them to meet the real Henry Ruggs and not the one that was escaping from something. I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact that… my face is always in the news, it’s always in the newspaper. So they have to constantly be reminded of the situation, be reminded of me and see those memories have to continue to rise.
“… I would just tell them that I deeply apologize for just being a part of that, and I wish that they could meet the real Henry Ruggs and not one who was just running away from everything.”
