talkSPORT Royal Ascot day three betting tips – Best racing bets and expert advice for Thursday ...Middle East

Sport by : (talksport) -

Day three of Royal Ascot arrives on Thursday with four more Group contests, headlined by the Gold Cup and supported by three competitive handicaps.

The card features last year’s St Ledger second Illinois, who represents Ballydoyle and is attempting to pick up the mantle after leading stayer Kyprios’ retirement.

Our expert, Jake Aldrich, has a trio of selections on the card, including one in the feature race and another in the Hampton Court Stakes.

Thursday’s Royal Ascot tips

4.20 Royal Ascot – Candelari @ 10/3  5.35  Royal Ascot – High Stock @ 19/5  3.05 Ascot – Sing Us A Song @ 13/2

4.20 Royal Ascot – Candelari @ 10/3

This year’s Gold Cup has an open feel to it, with the standard set by Trawlerman, who often saves his best for Ascot and finished an excellent second to Kyprios last year. Illinois also looks a danger after finishing second in last year’s St. Ledger and he looked as good as ever when taking a Group 3 on his seasonal reappearance.

However, he hasn’t been missed in the market and preference is for the French raider Candelari. The son of Frankel has made rapid progress in a short career, most recently taking his record to four wins from five starts in Group 1 company at Longchamp.

That impressive three-length victory came against a useful field of established stayers and his strength at the finish suggests he will have every chance of being suited by this extreme trip.

The best may still be to come for this exciting prospect and he can provide his in-form trainer, Francis-Henri Gaffard, with another winner at this meeting, following Calandagan last year.

5.35  Royal Ascot – High Stock @ 19/5

High Stock looks a lively contender in the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes at 5.35. The son of Dubawi produced a nice performance on his debut over a mile, winning the Wood Ditton.

That contest hasn’t worked out particularly well but Andrew Balding’s runner took a significant step forward when narrowly denied in Chester’s Dee Stakes – an effort which came behind a more experienced colt from Ballydoyle who had already shown a useful level of form.

From a smart staying family, he has more to offer over this trip and any further improvement on his last run should see him bang there against rivals that already have Group form in the book.

3.05 Ascot – Sing Us A Song @ 13/2

Ralph Beckett took this contest last year and has another strong contender with Sing Us A Song.

Recently acquired by Wathnan Racing, this promising colt has a very similar profile to the yard’s winner last season and has advanced his form with each career start.

His seasonal/handicap debut victory last time was particularly impressive and the form has been franked since. His family is full of useful stayers, including his brother Sir Eric, suggesting he should relish this step up in trip.

His wide draw in stall 18 isn’t too concerning either, with three of the last four editions going to runners drawn higher than 17.
