It’s over before it started.
The much anticipated 50-yard race between Olympic 100-meter champion Noah Lyles and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has officially been cancelled.
GettyLyles won gold in Paris over the summer[/caption]And it was reportedly the American sprinter who called it off.
ESPN reported that Lyles called off the race due to ‘personal reasons.’
The cancellation comes on the heels of Hill running 100m in an impressive 10.15 seconds last week.
The race between the two popular and brash athletes was supposed to take place in New York’s Time Square, according to Lyles.
“We were very deep into creating the event,” Lyles told reporters at the Stagwell Global Sport Beach event in Cannes, France.
“In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend.
“Unfortunately, there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn’t come to pass, but we were full on.
“We were going to shut down New York’s Times Square and everything, it was going to be a lot of fun.”
We will never know how true or close this race was to actually happening, but the timing of Lyles cancelling the event has led fans to speculate he was scared to go up against Hill.
This includes the eight-time Pro-Bowler himself.
Hill was all set to race Lyles and continuously asked for it to happenGetty Hill is one of the NFL’s most explosive playersGetty X/@CHEETAHHill wasted no time in trolling Lyles[/caption]After news of the cancellation, Hill took to X to troll and dunk on Lyles.
“@LylesNoah after seeing me run the 100m last weekend,” Hill posted, along with a picture of Lyles’ face on top of Homer Simpson’s body, shrinking back into a bush.
Fans also took to social media to clown on Lyles.
“Scared to compete,” one fan wrote.
“Bro ducks any good competition,” another wrote.
“He’s scared of the cheetah,” one more added.

There were hundreds more all sharing the same sentiment and calling Lyles scared.
They have good reason, as Lyles continuously poked Hill, including when Lyles won his fourth consecutive 60-meter indoor title back in February.
After coming in first, he tore off his race bib to reveal a scrawled message: “Tyreek Could Never.”
Hill would go on to troll him back, and the playful rivalry was born.
Unfortunately, there won’t be a resolution anytime soon.
