The fiscal year ends in two weeks, which means local government boards need to sign off on their budget plans for the next 12 months if they haven’t already. Budget votes are on the agenda this week for Orange County Commissioners, Chatham County Commissioners, and the town councils in Chapel Hill and Durham. In addition, the Carrboro Town Council will hear from the public on a proposed residential building on North Greensboro Street, and Rodney Trice will take his oath of office as the new superintendent of Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Carrboro Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 17. Their agenda includes a fact-finding update from town staff on a proposal to turn East Weaver Street into a pedestrian mall, plus a public hearing for a proposed three-story residential building at 400 N. Orange County Commissioners also meet Tuesday, June 17, at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center. Commissioners are slated to vote on next year’s budget as well as a 10-year capital investment plan. Get the full agenda here.
The Chapel Hill Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 18. Tops on the agenda: the council is scheduled to take a vote on next year’s budget. Get a link to the full agenda here.
And the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board also meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 18. Dr. Rodney Trice will be sworn in as the district’s new superintendent; then the board will receive state and local budget updates as well as data on safety and transportation. Click here for the full agenda.
Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners meet Monday, June 16, in the historic Pittsboro courthouse. Their meeting begins with a 2 p.m. work session, with presentations on child safety and wellness; then the board will reconvene for their regular meeting at 6 p.m., with an agenda that includes a vote on next year’s budget.
