Around 50 people drown at low-head dams like the ones along the Mahoning River each year. Two of them were Champion native Patty Wenner and her husband Craig, who drowned in the Stillwater River, near the Englewood Dam (Montgomery County) in 2006. They left behind two children. The dams are dangerous; too often deadly.

A 63-year-old man steals $140,000 from his condo association and gets probation and has to pay $250 a month. So, he’ll be 110 years old when done. What?? Also, lady from Vienna steals millions and a plea deal is being worked on?? What’s going on at the courthouse??

Tuesday’s paper used the AP article that reported that three people were killed by Israel at a Gaza aid site. Now it appears from other news outlets, that the story is false and no one was killed. The source for AP’s article was Hamas. From this point on, I will consider the AP as a false news site and will reject all their articles as fake news.

The “best interest of the child”. Really? Trump’s bill will do severe damage to both Medicaid and SNAP, hurting America’s poorest and their children. Then Trump’s long-held grievance against Obama will remove ACA from about 16 million people dependent on this health coverage. Add in the tax cuts for the rich, and all is well for Trump and his sycophants, doing whatever they can to stay safe in his orbit. The rich get richer and the poor, much poorer.

President Zelenskyy just said, “I believe (only) America has the power to end this war. Europe and the free world are waiting for President Trump to stand up and lead us.” The real question is exactly what is in the heart of Trump’s heart? Does Trump really value freedom and democracy?

What a co-inky-dink! “Dictator Donny” was finally exposed in the Epstein files and what’s his response: “Quick! Send in the Marines and the national guard into LA to round up those monsters who trim our bushes and spread mulch on our flower beds! Deport! Deport! Deport before they poison our blood!” Oh, dang! What’s he hiding?

Thank goodness that America is having a huge parade to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army! The anarchists, aka Democrats, would rather spend money on things that destroy America, like allowing illegal aliens in and supporting them, keep increasing spending further into debt, fund causes for fringe minorities, fund Palestinians who want us dead, and allow a hugely bloated federal government to continue. Trump is doing what is good for We The People and our nation!

Just wanted to say thank you for finally including the Professional Tennis Highlights on your Sports page! I have been waiting 6 months to read anything about Pro Tennis and finally, you have posted the French Open (Roland Garros). Do you know that there are tournaments going on all year all over the world? It would be nice to read about them at least once a week.

Two courts, two losses — Commissioners, take the hint. The dam’s coming down, and all you’re holding up now is our tax dollars. Stop trying to plug the river with lawsuits. Let it flow, and let it go.

We are very fortunate to have the Trumbull Senior Production Company here in the Valley. Each year they put on a spectacular show filled with singing and dancing. Their annual show will be Saturday, June 14 at 6 pm at Niles McKinley High School. Please get out and support this group. Let’s keep this Valley alive with entertainment.

Remove the damn dam already. States are removing dams across the country. The dam no longer serves the purpose for which it was constructed. It significantly disrupts the natural flow of water and affects the river’s ecosystem. Besides, it is a deadly risk to recreationists. Maybe the county commissioners should have spent some of the ARP funds on sewers for Warren Township, so you don’t have to see every time they flush a toilet it ends up in the river.

Sue, sue and more suing. This is Trump’s modus operandi. I think he has sued and been sued more than anyone in history, from his earliest days of hurting small businesses by never paying for their services in his early failing business dealings to the present day when any perceived criticism has him on the attack and suing. Does he pay all of the attorneys he hires or does he not pay them either?

So, Insight wants to re-open Trumbull Hospital and Hillside. Doctors have gone elsewhere; nurses have taken other jobs; support personnel have left; equipment has been repossessed. How in the world would they re-open the hospitals? Cautious optimism? Fatalistic despair? Final resignation? Unfortunately, it’s too little too late. Even with the St. Joe’s facility, Warren has become an underserved wasteland for hospital care. People will die because of Steward’s greed and mismanagement, and the courts are doing nothing.
