Target locations are known for their bold, red exteriors, making the retail chain easy to spot when passing by. But a new Target opening soon in the Hamptons will be a muted shade of gray instead.
Located in Bridgehampton, New York, the Target was designed to “align with the town’s design guidelines to reflect its coastal vibes,” according to a press release issued by Target. The 90,000 square foot-store will offer guests a CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks and is expected to employ about 140 team members. Target first opened in the state of New York in 1996 and the Bridgehampton location will mark its 109th store in the state.

The then president of the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce, Ellen Dioguardi, was quoted by The Star as saying, “The difference between going into a Target type of big-box store and shopping in your local community means when you keep it local you are helping support your neighbors and friends and your entire community.”
Two years later, the new Target store is set to open on Oct. 11. The store has a pale, gray exterior with white Target signage and bullseye. Retail Dive reports the Target sign is not internally illuminated and is instead lit from above in keeping with the area’s signage requirements. A Target spokesperson told Retail Dive that Target “worked closely with the town to ensure the store’s exterior and signage fit naturally within the surrounding community.”
Retail Dive also reports that there are other Target stores around the U.S. with similar limitations. Stores in Silverthorne, Colo. and South Lake Tahoe, Calif. have specific exterior elements that were put into place in consideration of the location of the store.
Target will open eight locations in October, for a total of 30 brick-and-mortar locations opened by the chain in 2026.
