The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and personnel changes, both coaches and players, continue. Exactly a month after Mike Hesson was appointed head coach of the Pakistan cricket team, their batting coach resigned. According to Geo Super, citing personal reasons, Mohammad Yousuf has stepped down.
Pakistan’s batting coach resigns
The Pakistani batting great was working with up-and-coming players at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore as a batting coach. On March 4, Yousuf also assumed the role of Pakistan’s batting coach. He was with the Men in Green during the New Zealand white-ball tour. But in the last series against Bangladesh in May, he wasn’t part of the coaching setup for reasons unknown.
Cricket 5 mins PCB plans a big tri-series to prepare for an “undecided” Asia Cup 2025The move isn’t exactly surprising. Every time a new coach comes in, the entire staff usually changes. But unlike in the past, new head coach Hesson has nothing to do with Yousuf resigning. It’s a decision the 50-year-old has made himself to resign.
But this certainly creates a problem for PCB. Pakistan is scheduled to play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs against the West Indies in August. So, by then, they have to find an appropriate replacement for Yousuf. But the bigger issue would be replacing him at the NCA. It’s the place where young players develop and you need someone of Yousuf’s pedigree to assume that role.
