Richards, 81, posted to his social media accounts in honor of the iconic singer-songwriter’s death a few hours after the news on Wednesday and included a photo of the cover of his memoir, Life, which features the classic rocker’s face, as well as a second photo of a passage in the book where he talks about Wilson. “Rest in Peace!” he captioned the post, which led fans to assume at first glance that Richards himself had passed away.
And in one hysterical comment, a Facebook user wrote: “But what would be more Keith Richards than Keith Richards announcing the demise of Keith Richards?”
“It was later on, listening to Pet Sounds, well, it’s all a little bit overproduced for me, but Brian Wilson had something. ‘In My Room,’ ‘Don’t Worry Baby.’ I was more interested in their B-sides, the ones he slipped in,” Richards continued in the book. “There was no particular correlation with what we were doing so I could just listen to it on another level. I thought these are very well-constructed songs.”
Richards has since edited the Facebook version of his caption to clarify and read, “Rest in Peace, Brian Wilson!” whereas the caption on the Instagram version of his post has remained the same.
