ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Here’s your guide to events happening this week and weekend in the Rochester area. You can learn more about what’s happening around town on our Community Calendar.

Poetry in the Bowl (Wednesday through Friday)

The Bowl in Highland Park will be full of poetry and live music through Friday night. Poetry in the Bowl runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each day.

Patricia Spears, a New York State poet laureate, will perform on Friday. Her poetry seeks to foster a connection across generations and she has spent over 50 years as a poet, educator, and activist. You can see the complete schedule here. Guests can bring a blanket and a lawn chair to enjoy the performance.

Movies with a Downtown View (Friday)

Parcel 5 in downtown Rochester will once again screen movies for free on an 18-foot-wide screen. Movies with a Downtown View returns on Friday with a screening of the 1992 film “Sister Act”.

The movie starts at 7 p.m. and there will be games and food trucks beforehand. There will also be an ASL interpreter and closed captioning with each film. Guests are welcome to bring chairs and blankets. Here’s this season’s schedule:

Friday, June 13: Sister Act (1992) Friday, July 18: Wicked (2024) Friday, Aug. 29: The Greatest Showman (2017)

Finger Lakes Country Music Festival (Saturday)

The Wayne County Fairgrounds in Palmyra will host the fourth annual Finger Lakes Country Music Festival on Saturday. Dustin Lynch, the singer of hits like “Thinking ‘Bout You” and “Good Girl”, is headlining the show.

The concert will also feature craft beer, a clambake, food trucks, and camping. Festival gates open at 4 p.m. and the first show starts at 5:30 p.m. Parking is available at the Wayne County Fairgrounds for $20 and the lot opens at 2:30 p.m. You can see the full lineup and get tickets here.

Juneteenth celebration at The Strong National Museum of Play (Saturday)

The Strong National Museum of Play is hosting its Juneteenth Community Celebration on Saturday with activities to honor Black history. The museum will offer free admission and parking.

The celebration kicks off with a performance of the Black National Anthem at the Wilson Lobby at 10:45 a.m. After that, there will be a presentation on the history of Juneteenth at the Paychex Theater at 11 a.m. There will also be African dance, jazz music, a fashion show, and more.
