Thomas Frank is in a tug of war with Brentford over highly-rated coach Justin Cochrane.
talkSPORT understands Spurs are in talks with Brentford over England coach Cochrane following Frank to north London.
Frank wants to take some of his coaching staff with himGettyHowever, Brentford want to keep Cochrane – once a youth coach with Tottenham – and have shortlisted him as a contender to succeed Frank as boss.
As exclusively revealed by talkSPORT, Brentford are also interested in Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna while Burnley’s Scott Parker is another contender.
Frank has already agreed terms with Tottenham to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy has agreed to trigger his release clause of between £9m and £10m.
The delay in Frank being announced are discussions over which backroom staff he can take with him.
The Dane has been Brentford boss since 2018 and guided them to the Premier League in 2021, winning the Championship play-off final.
Since then, the Bees have become an established top flight outfit and have thrived off a modest budget.
The 2024/25 season saw them finish in 10th place, a massive seven places and 18 points above Tottenham.
He will replace Postecoglou, who was sacked just 16 days after winning the Europa League – their first major trophy in 17 years.
Former Tottenham player and manager Glenn Hoddle has backed Frank to be a success with the north London club.
He told talkSPORT: “I think he’s done a wonderful job in the sense that he’s been consistent with Brentford. Some of the results he’s got have been magnificent. He’s adaptable. I’ve got to say that.
Frank is set to be the next Tottenham boss, replacing Ange Postecoglou“He hasn’t got one dimension of the way he wants to play. I think if he was to come to Tottenham, he would need his staff with him, definitely, because I think there is a close-knit feeling amongst him and his staff, and they know exactly what he wants from his players. I think it would be a good fit.
“There’s a lot of good managers around in the Premier League that would be a good fit for Tottenham.
“But I think I met him a few times, went down to Brentford, did some work with him on TV and spent half a day with him. I really liked him.
“I think his character, he’s good with the media, he’s good with the press. I think he’d do a very good job wherever he goes if he does step up, and it would be a step up to go into Tottenham.”
One of the first issues that will be on the agenda for Frank when he gets in the door is the future of club captain Heung-min Son.
“I still have one more year left on the contract,” Son said on Tuesday to Korean agency Yonhap.
“Rather than saying anything at this moment, I think we should all wait and see what happens.”
