BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- More than $3,000 has been raised in just a day for 7-year-old Annabelle, who has reportedly undergone surgery after a crash at a lemonade stand.

Annabelle was seriously injured on Tuesday, June 10, when NC troopers said a car accident sent a vehicle flying off Conley Road and into the front yard where she and two other young girls were selling lemonade. The car slammed into the stand, critically injuring all three children.

Annabelle was airlifted to Mission Hospital in Asheville with life-threatening injuries.

According to family updates, one of Annabelle’s legs was completely shattered, and her other leg has a shattered ankle. She underwent emergency surgery to place multiple pins and screws in her legs, and more surgeries are reportedly expected.

Family said doctors are also monitoring a bleeding hematoma on her brain and spinal damage, though the full extent of her injuries remains unknown.

“Please keep Annabelle, her family, and all the others involved in your prayers. Thank you,” said Michael Masten, Annabelle’s uncle and organizer of a GoFundMe campaign.

So far, the fundraiser has collected more than $3,100 from more than 65 donors, with a goal of $5,000 to help the family cover medical bills and other urgent expenses.

The driver who is accused of causing the crash, Haley McCorkle, 24, of Hickory, has been charged with failure to yield the right of way, resulting in serious bodily injury.

Troopers said she pulled into the path of another vehicle, which then veered off the road and struck the three children. Despite the overwhelming stress, the families are holding onto hope.

“I can’t blame anyone for the accident. Accidents happen,” said the mother of one of the girls. “I’ve just had to pray about it.”
