Though cause for speculation over the past several years, DC Studios CEO and Superman director James Gunn has officially confirmed that a movie featuring the Amazonian princess is in development "right now."
Speaking about DC's plans following the release of Superman on July 11, the 58-year-old director talked about 2026's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and the planned releases of both a Batman and Wonder Woman standalone film. Additionally, Gunn also confirmed that a HBO series focusing on the Amazons of Themyscira (Wonder Woman's native home in DC's continuity) is also in active development, reportedly titled Paradise Island.
The last time audiences saw DC's Amazing Amazon on the big screen was an uncredited appearance from Gal Gadot in 2023's The Flash. As of yet, there's no official word on whether Gadot will reprise her the role as the iconic Warrior of Truth, although with Gunn rebooting the DC Universe from the ground up, it's unlikely the 40-year-old actress will return for any future DC-related media.
"What Matt's doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary," Gunn said about The Batman Part II. "We're supposed to see that script shortly, and I can't wait."
