In a statement Tuesday, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said an investigation by inspectors Ken Cochrane and James Draper found “there is no basis for filing criminal charges for criminal negligence by any person in this case.”

Kyle Harrison died at the Maple Street Correctional Facility on March 15.

Prosecutors said the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office determined Harrison’s death “was the result of an accidental drug overdose.”

“The coroner concluded that Mr. Harrison’s death was accidental due to the toxic effects of methadone, amitriptyline and gabapentin,” the district attorney’s office said. “Therefore, this case is now deemed closed by this office.”

Methadone is used to treat opioid use disorder, amitriptyline to treat symptoms of depression and gabapentin to treat various conditions including epilepsy, nerve pain and restless leg syndrome.

Harrison was sentenced in February to eight years in state prison for participating in a street race that resulted in the deaths of a San Carlos couple and injuries to their 7-year-old twins.
