The Arizona Diamondbacks’ season has not gone how many expected it to despite the biggest payroll in franchise history.
But while question marks surround the bullpen and starting rotation with the team three games under .500 entering play Monday, Corbin Carroll’s place among MLB’s best remains rock solid.
In ESPN analyst David Schoenfield’s still-too-early MLB All-Star predictions released Monday, Carroll found himself firmly in the starting lineup alongside Washington’s James Wood and Chicago’s Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Carroll marks one of Arizona’s bright spots in 2025. Across 64 games played (286 plate appearances), the outfielder is slashing .259/.339/.565 with a .905 OPS. He leads the National League with six triples and is tied for fourth in MLB in runs scored with 49 and fifth in home runs with 18.
If anyone on the D-backs is going to earn an All-Star nod this season, it’s Carroll.
Schoenfield’s Ketel Marte MLB All-Star debate
Carroll’s starting spot in Schoenfield’s way-too-early predictions is a no-brainer.
When it comes to second baseman Ketel Marte, it’s a much closer debate, with St. Louis’ Brendan Donovan, Milwaukee’s Brice Turang and Chicago’s Nico Hoerner also in the picture.
My vote goes to Marte. He’s the best player of the group, and only the injury holds him back in the debate. He’s hitting .294/.418/.603 with 12 home runs in 39 games and has more walks than strikeouts, ranking in the 90th-plus percentile in walk rate and lowest strikeout rate. What a fantastic player — often overlooked. Donovan makes it as the backup, while Turang and Hoerner draw the short straw and are left off my hypothetical team.
