An attempted robbery of a Mountain View woman at an Oakland mall located at the 10700 block of MacArthur Boulevard turned into a shootout with mall security Saturday afternoon, according to Oakland Police.
The Mountain View woman, 65, left a business in the mall at approximately 4:45 p.m. when she was confronted by at least one man who attempted to rob her, according to authorities.
A security guard intervened to protect the woman. The suspect then brandished a firearm and began shooting at the security guard. The security guard pulled out his own firearm and returned fire, striking the suspect in the torso. The suspect fled the mall and entered a vehicle driven by another person, police said.
Police found the wounded suspect with a firearm a block away from the mall at the 2700 block of Shaw Street. Officers took the suspect to a hospital where he is in critical but stable condition. He was placed under arrest for attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.
Authorities are still seeking the second suspect who drove the vehicle, police said.
The Mountain View woman was uninjured, police said.
