Former LSU and Kentucky defensive back Kelvin Joseph has been charged with driving while intoxicated after the 25-year-old was involved in a fatal motorcycle crash in Richardson, Texas.
Richardson Police announced on social media that they were investigating a crash on Saturday. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 75 and the motorcyclist who died was identified as 27-year-old Cody Morris of Plano, Texas. The Dallas Morning News reported that Morris was killed just before 5 a.m. in the 2400 block of U.S. Highway 75.
Joseph called Plano Police and told them he had been involved in the deadly crash. In a statement on social media, police said they could tell there were “signs of intoxication” in Joseph while they were talking to him after the accident.
The Baton Rouge native faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated and a felony charge of collision involving death.
Joseph played in 11 games for LSU as a true freshman in 2018 before transferring to Kentucky for the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He sat out the 2019 season due to transfer rules at the time, then made 9 starts for the Wildcats in 2020.
He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and spent 2 seasons with the organization.
Joseph also spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts, and Minnesota Vikings. He currently plays cornerback in the XFL with the DC Defenders.
