A pedestrian was fatally injured Monday after being struck by a vehicle in El Cajon, authorities said.
The collision occurred around 4:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of North Second Street between Flamingo Ave. and El Rey Ave., according to the El Cajon Police Department.
Flamingo AvenueOfficers and paramedics arrived to find an unidentified man with major injuries, police said. He was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
The 58-year-old driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with officers, police said.
Officials said that the victim appeared to be wearing dark clothing and standing in the roadway for unknown reasons.
Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the accident, police said.
