The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday its endorsement of Chula Vista Mayor John McCann in the special runoff election for county supervisor in the South Bay.
The chamber said its 85-member Board of Directors voted to formally endorse McCann, a Republican, who led Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre, a Democrat, by 42.4% to 32.3% in the April 8 special election.
“Throughout his time on the Chula Vista City Council and as mayor, McCann has championed business-friendly policies that foster growth and a thriving business environment,” the chamber said. “His unwavering commitment to economic opportunity makes him the clear choice for the business community.”
Aguirre’s endorsements include the San Diego Democratic Party, Rep. Juan Vargas, National City Mayor Ron Morrison and numerous labor unions.
The special runoff election is scheduled for July 1 to fill the seat vacated by Nora Vargas, who declined to serve her new term after being elected last November.
