The brand, which is among Gen Z's favorite fast casual restaurant brand according to a recent poll, unveiled it plans for its first-ever location in Mexico on Monday, April 21.
According to a press release, the new venture is thanks to a partnership with Alsea, a leading restaurant operator in Latin America and Europe.
The big news comes just shy of a month after Chipotle was forced to address a "very eerie" report that suggested it would be the next chain to shudder restaurant locations. At the time, a rep for the company said the claims were nothing more than rumors and "false information stemmed from an inaccurate online article confusing Chipotle with a venture it tested in 2023."
"We anticipate opening between 315 to 345 new restaurants this year, with at least 80 percent including a (digital drive-thru) Chipotlane," the rep shared at the time.
Now, we know that growth includes the brand's first-ever restaurant in Mexico.
Alsea CEO Armando Torrado noted that the company is "proud to work with an iconic brand like Chipotle and help grow its international business for years to come."
Like the rep shared a few months back, Chipotle said it still plans to open between 315 and 345 new storefronts in the U.S. and Canada in 2025, strengthening its growing presence with locations already operating over 3,700 restaurants in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Kuwait, and United Arab Emirates.
