The Housing Navigation Center’s seasonal overnight shelter will close April 30 as the winter season comes to an end.
The United Way of Weld County’s 60-bed overnight facility will house guests for its final night of the season on April 29, according to a news release from the nonprofit.
Since November 2024, the shelter has offered “warmth, safety, and stability” to unhoused adults in the community during the coldest months of the year, the release said. The facility is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. seven days a week at 870 28th St. in Greeley, generally from November to April.
As the shelter prepares to close, the Housing Navigation Center team will work to ensure a “safe and respectful transition” for those impacted. The team will start work on reopening the facility in the fall.
Ernest Cienfuegos-Baca, the vice president of community impact at United Way of Weld County, said the nonprofit needs continued support to maintain shelter services.
“We know how important the shelter is to those without a home, especially in the colder months,” Cienfuegos-Baca said in the release. “It costs approximately $75 per night to provide one person with a safe place to sleep, a warm meal and basic support services.”
United Way accepts donations to offset shelter operating costs — contributions that keep community members “safe and supported” during a crisis. To donate, go to unitedway-weld.org.
