WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KRON) -- Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton is facing a recall after the group behind the effort said they’ve gained enough signatures to begin the process. Becton was handed a recall notice on Monday.
Supporters of the recall claim that Becton is putting public safety at risk by failing to address crime.
Cain Velasquez speaks out before his sentencing hearingThe family of Alexis Gabe supports the recall. Pieces of the 24-year-old Oakley woman’s body were found on a hillside in Amador County in November 2022. The Antioch Police Department believes her ex-boyfriend Marshall Jones strangled her to death. When Jones pulled a knife on Seattle police in June 2023, officers shot and killed him.
January is also when the statute of limitations expired for the case against Alicia Coleman-Clark, who is Jones’ mother. She was arrested for aiding and abetting in connection to Gabe’s killing, but the DA’s office did not file charges against her, telling us they didn’t have any evidence connecting her to the crime.
Alexis GabeAlexis’ father, Gwyn Gabe, said the family is “confused as to why they feel it’s still not enough.”
“That’s what really infuriates me, you know. It’s over for us,” Gwyn said.
The group behind the recall said they now have more than 100 signatures, which are required to move forward with the recall process.
KRON4 has reached out to the DA’s office for comment and is waiting to hear back.
