The Greeley Recreation Center will host a free celebration next weekend to mark 40 years as a hub of community activity.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, staff will host a “birthday party” at the center, 651 10th Ave., and everyone is welcome, a city news release announced.
Guests can get into the center free on the day of the celebration. Available activities will include jumping on inflatable obstacles in the pool, testing your skills on the climbing wall and friendly competition over indoor yard games.
There will also be popcorn, cotton candy and cupcakes available.
Instructors will be on hand to discuss archery, climbing, swimming, art, dance and music classes. Youth basketball games will take place in the gym, and staff will also be available to discuss upcoming camps and youth sports clinics.
The recreation center’s many activities and offerings include two gyms, a weight room, racquetball courts, an indoor pool with a diving well and a climbing wall.
The center opened on Feb. 25, 1985, and it has hosted various parties, banquets and special events including community meetings. In 2017, it underwent more than $1 million in renovations to create additional meeting space.
“With its wide range of amenities, the Greeley Recreation Center provides an excellent space for staying active and having fun,” the city news release states.
The recreation center is normally open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Normal non-member admission ranges from $2 for youth 5 and younger to $6 for adults 19-59, with $5 admission for youth 6-18, seniors and military. The city also offers 20-visit cards and memberships for one months, three months or a year.
