We are in the midst of one of the greatest betrayals in modern American history — a coup orchestrated by the alliance between the Trump administration and Elon Musk, the richest man in the world. What we’re witnessing isn’t the revitalization of America but the unchecked redistribution of wealth to the top 1%, at the expense of everyone else.
As someone who has worked in manufacturing for nearly two decades, I’ve seen firsthand the consequences of bad trade policies that have outsourced our jobs, dismantled American industry, and left millions struggling to make ends meet. But it’s not just the policies — it’s the lack of vision to rebuild. We have no infrastructure, and the blue-collar workforce is dwindling. Yet Trump and Musk push forward with a plan that doesn’t seek to restore what’s been lost but rather enrich the elite at the top.
Where is the “America first” in all of this? How does cozying up to authoritarian leaders like Putin and Xi — while eroding our relationships with Canada, Mexico and European allies — serve our national interests? Trump’s reckless undermining of NATO plays right into Putin’s hands. This isn’t putting America first; it’s weakening our position and handing over power to foreign dictators. Meanwhile, the real issues at home — skyrocketing grocery prices, unaffordable housing — are ignored.
This isn’t economic reform; it’s the dismantling of the system that built this country. While Clinton and Gore reduced government bureaucracy in the 1990s, improving the economy without slashing services, Trump and Musk are doing the opposite. Their “reforms” are the slow destruction of America’s future. Musk’s profits come at the expense of the rest of us, while the government is handed over to unelected oligarchs with no allegiance to the American people.
The American people are waking up to the harsh reality. Throughout Colorado and coast to coast I hear the same concerns from Independents and both sides of the political spectrum. People are alarmed by the direction the country is heading. The extremist flank of the voting base feels emboldened, but their actions only divide us further. This isn’t about partisan politics; it’s about the destruction of a nation built on shared values, opportunity, and democracy.
We are not just watching the rise of a powerful oligarchic elite; we’re witnessing the emergence of an authoritarian regime. Executive orders are handed down with no checks or balances, Congress is too scared to oppose the vast sums of money Musk can pour into their re-election campaigns, and the courts remain silent as our rights and freedoms are stripped away. Our democracy is being hollowed out.
This is where we must stand up. People across the country are beginning to organize strikes, opt out of spending, and engage in acts of civil disobedience to force the government to listen. It’s a movement not of politics but of survival. Our future, the future of our children and grandchildren, is at stake. If we remain passive, the America we once knew will cease to exist.
The fight is now, and the choice is ours. We cannot allow unelected billionaires to dictate our future. We cannot sit idly by while our nation is sold off piece by piece to the highest bidder. This is the moment to reclaim our country from the hands of the few and ensure that the American dream is not just for the rich but for everyone.
Our ancestors fought for a better future — one of opportunity, fairness, and justice for all. It is our duty to carry that vision forward, to protect it, and to fight for a nation that serves the many, not the privileged few.
