AMERICANS were met with an ominous warning sign in the window of a Dairy Queen to let them know the company has closed 25 spots in one state.

For many years, Texas has been known as “DQ Country” in the brand’s advertising, but over two dozen have suddenly shut with little explanation.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a sign in a Dairy Queen in Sour Lake which left an abrupt goodbye to long time customers.

It reads: “Thank you Sour Lake!

It has been our honor and pleasure to serve this neighborhood for the past several years, but unfortunately, we are closing.

“Thank you so much for all the wonderful memories and for helping us spread joy through food.”

The Sour Lake Dairy Queen has been open since 1973, and has suddenly closed after its 52 years of business in the area.

A spokesperson for Dairy Queen said: “We can confirm that 25 DQ restaurants in the Texas Panhandle, North Texas, and West Texas/South Plains–owned by a single franchise owner–closed last week.

“The franchise owner continues to own and operate other DQ restaurants in Texas.

“After these closures, Texas continues to lead the country in the number of DQ restaurants.”

Other long standing Dairy Queens set to close in the state include those in Buna, Cleveland and Dayton.

This massive shakeup will have an impact on those who would enjoy a frozen treat from their local Dairy Queen.

Southeast Texans who live near four Dairy Queen locations will have to drive farther to get their beloved Hung-r Buster, Blizzard or dipped cone.

According to the website LocalAuctions.com, “Multiple Dairy Queen locations are closing their doors and must liquidate the assets.”

There is currently an auction underway to offload some of the stores’ contents.

Not all of the items are being sold, however.

It has been reported that the “complete contents” of the local locations are up for auction, aside from Coke machines, CO2 tanks, tea brewers, ice machines and IT equipment.
