The left-handed batter was left out of Pakistan's squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after suffering an ankle injury during the South Africa tour in December 2024. His recovery was a race against time, causing a delay in Pakistan's official squad announcement for the marquee tournament.
"Pakistan opener Saim Ayub is progressing well in his recovery from a right ankle fracture and will continue his rehabilitation in England. Following comprehensive MRI scans, X-rays, and medical assessments, Saim has been ruled out for 10 weeks from the date of injury (3 January). His availability for the New Zealand tour will be subject to clearing all fitness tests and medical requirements," PCB's statement read.

He scored two centuries in South Africa before suffering an ankle fracture during the second Test in January. He was flown to London for specialized treatment. Saim, who was the fifth-highest run scorer in the 2024 PSL with 345 runs, is recovering from an ankle injury.
