Time limits lifted for fire survivors renting at L.A. County-owned RV parks ...Middle East

News by : (Los Angeles Daily News) -

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Jan. 28 unanimously approved lifting limitations on how long wildfire survivors can park their recreational vehicles at county-owned RV parks.

The county owns two RV parks, one at the Bonelli Bluffs RV Resort and Campground in San Dimas, and the other at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa del Rey. The Dockweiler park closed in January for maintenance but is expected to reopen in February.

The five-member board needed to lift the limitations because the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation imposes a three-week-long limit on stays in its RV parks as part of leases signed with private operators.

The motion also waived all fees for fire survivors staying at the RV parks and suspends “applicable restrictions, for use of property and facilities under the control of the Department of Parks and Recreation.”

“There are no time limitations on how long they can stay,” said a spokesperson for L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who sponsored the motion along with supervisor Lindsey Horvath. “It’s necessary to support the recovery from the fires.”

A Parks and Recreation spokeswoman could not be reached for comment on how many fire survivors are staying at Bonelli Bluffs, which is about 30 miles to the east of the Eaton fire in Altadena. The Dockweiler RV park is about 20 miles southeast of Pacific Palisades, where wildfire swept through the community on Jan. 7.

The supervisors stepped in on the leases between the county parks and private operators because the legal limitations conflicted with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s executive order issued on Jan. 27 that expanded temporary housing for all of L.A. County’s firestorm survivors. The order loosened rules for hotels and short-term rentals to more than 30 days.
