As with Girls Basketball, this is the final week of the regular season in Boys Basketball and almost all teams in Osceola County will be jockeying for district seeding in the final week. Osceola lost for just the second time all season on Saturday (18-2), dropping a decision at Lake Highland Prep. The Kowboys will stay busy in the final week, playing four times – including a season-ending showdown at Southland Christian Academy (20-3). Osceola has an outstanding chance of securing the top seed in Class 7A, District 9; which they share with Poinciana (14-7), Celebration (9-14), Haines City and Davenport Ridge.
Since dropping a tough 62-57 decision to Osceola in the OBC Tournament finals, Tommy Billiteri’s team rallied for a pair of wins – beating Oviedo on the road in overtime (47-44) and posting a convincing win over Celebration (58-29). The Bulldogs finish with a pair of games this week at home, hosting Eau Gallie (5-16) on Tuesday and Bishop Moore (4-18) on Thursday.
The Chargers are the highest ranked team in their far-flung district that includes Bishop Moore, Hardee, Lake Region, Mulberry and Teneroc. Liberty will close with two games this week, including a home contest with Tohopekaliga on Wednesday. Travis James’ up-and-down Gateway Panthers (8-10) can get above .500 on the season but will need to win their final three games of the season – including a game tonight at Harmony.
