Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are chasing a Super Bowl three-peat with the Kansas City Chiefs.
After claiming the top prize in back-to-back campaigns, Kansas City finished the 2024 regular season with a league-best 15-2 record, and are favored to make history come February.
Mahomes and Kelce are one of the most feared partnerships in the NFLGettyMahomes and Kelce have been key to their recent dominance, and since 2018, the quarterback/tight end duo have combined for an incredible 55 touchdown passes in the regular season alone.
And their record in the playoffs is arguably even more impressive.
Last year, Mahomes and Kelce combined for their 16th postseason touchdown together, surpassing the record set by Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, who had scored 15 together across their legendary careers.
They have gone on to add two more, including one in the divisional round last weekend, to extend that feat.
And that isn’t the only record that has fallen in the postseason, either.
Last week against the Houston Texans, Mahomes helped Kelce officially pass Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice for the most 100-yard receiving games in NFL playoff history.
With Kelce and Mahomes firing once again in January, there is a feeling that an historic Super Bowl three-peat is within reach.
But for all their success together, the star tight end has one major regret from his time with the Chiefs.
Speaking ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills, Kelce admitted that he feels ‘guilty’ he wasn’t able to help Mahomes’ predecessor, Alex Smith, win a Super Bowl.
Mahomes was Kansas City’s backup quarterback for one season as a rookie in 2017, after being selected 10th overall in the draft.
Mahomes played back up to Smith for one season in Kansas CityGettyWith a playoff spot and the fourth seed in the playoffs secured that year, Smith was rested for the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos, handing Mahomes his first start.
The understudy helped lead the Chiefs to a 27–24 win, completing 22 of 35 passes for 284 yards and one interception in his NFL debut.
One month later, the Chiefs agreed to trade Smith to the Washington Redskins and elevated Mahomes to starting quarterback.
By the time Smith was traded away, Kelce and Mahomes had become close, but the TE still took the departure of his former teammate hard.
“I wanted to get a Super Bowl for Alex,” Kelce told ESPN.
“He was such a leader to me, showed me how to do it the right way.

“At the same time, everybody knew what we had in Pat.
“I was excited about having a new wave of energy and excitement in the offense, a guy with a big arm, a guy that could do it all.”
While he remains close to Smith to this day, Kelce quickly went on to build a dynamic partnership with his new quarterback.
He set what at the time were career highs in catches (103), yards (1,336) and touchdowns (10) in Mahomes’ first year as the starter.
The pair haven’t looked back since, and have already won three Super Bowls in seven seasons together.
This year, they have proven key to keeping chances of a three-peat alive, and if history is anything to go by, they could well come up big against the Bills on Championship Sunday.
