During the Thursday, Jan. 16 episode of Ripa's talk show with husband Mark Consuelos, the pair welcomed Netflix star Gabriel Basso to the set as a guest—but his entrance wound up being a tad more awkward than they expected.
As seen in a clip from Thursday's show reposted by Entertainment Weekly, the 30-year-old actor greeted Ripa, 54, by first putting out his arm to shake her hand, but the talk show host was already prepared to go in for a hug, too.
"No, I just...you're married," Basso replied. "I just wanted to give you a handshake."
“Well, Mark was going to hug you first, but I wanted to make him feel less weird about it,” Ripa explained, while Basso admitted that he "missed" the gesture from Consuelos, 53.
The incident on Live came just one day after Basso called Laura Spencer "ma'am" during a Good Morning America interview on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
“That’s why people love you, you’re very true to yourself and true to your craft,” she said during the interview, per the New York Post. “Everything I’ve read about you has just been incredibly complimentary, and the show speaks for itself. It is a pleasure to meet you. I hope you’ll come back."
