Australia National Cricket Team batter Steve Smith, who isn't touted as a T20 specialist, has been a decent contributor in the shortest format of the game. Of late, there have been a lot of talks about his retirement as well and the batter is in his 15th year of international cricket.
Steve Smith played a massive role for Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as he slammed two glorious tons. And right after that series, he joined the Sydney Sixers camp in the Big Bash League (BBL). He made sure that he set the stage on fire right in his first outing for the team this season.
I think I will play plenty of franchise stuff for a while, I enjoy playing in the T20 comps - Steve Smith
Smith talked about his future, saying that he will be playing franchise cricket for a while as he loves to get involved in T20 camps. He also said that as long as his body is fit and his mind is good, he will continue playing and learning. Speaking to Fox Cricket, he said:
"As long as the body is good and the mind is still good and I want to keep playing and keep improving, I will play for as long as I can."
"I’ve enjoyed the last couple of years when I get the opportunity to play for the Sixers - Steve Smith
"I’ve enjoyed the last couple of years when I get the opportunity to play for the Sixers, I think I’ve got three hundreds in seven innings. It’s been good fun and I love coming back and playing for the Sixers, I’ve been involved since the outset of the tournament and I enjoy playing here."
