Former South Carolina quarterback Robby Ashford is set to join the ACC, announcing his commitment to Wake Forest on Sunday. The 6-foot-2, 229-pound redshirt senior has one year of eligibility remaining and will suit up under new Demon Deacons head coach Jake Dickert, who replaced Dave Clawson after 11 seasons.
Ashford, a former four-star recruit ranked No. 168 overall in ESPN’s 2020 class, shared his reasons for choosing Wake Forest, citing Dickert’s vision for the program and the chance to “be the guy” in his final collegiate season.
A dual-threat quarterback, Ashford has had a winding journey in college football. He began at Oregon, spending two years without seeing game action, before transferring to Auburn. As Auburn’s starter in 2022, he threw for 1,613 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 710 yards and seven scores, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors. In 2023, he moved to a backup role but still contributed with 145 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 217 rushing yards.
Ashford transferred to South Carolina in 2024, backing up LaNorris Sellers. He appeared in eight games, completing 23 of 32 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns while adding 227 rushing yards and two scores.
Now, Ashford hopes to make a lasting impact at Wake Forest as he looks to close out his college career on a high note.
