Taking to X, Birmingham said in a statement: “The game is paused for what appears to be a medical emergency.

“Sending our best wishes to those involved.”

Burton meanwhile posted: “Play is stopped due to a medical emergency in the crowd.”

They added: “We send our best wishes to all involved.”

The match had to be halted in the 38th minute, but play resumed four minutes later.”

It was only on Monday night which saw Birmingham involved in another match involving a medical emergency.

That was away at Lincoln, with the incident taking place prior to kick-off, leading to the match being pushed back by 15 minutes.

Birmingham went on to win that fixture to ensure they would be top on Christmas Day.

It was their seventh win in a row in all competitions – their fifth on the bounce in England’s third-tier.

Jay Stanfield – who joined the club from Fulham on deadline day in a deal worth up to £20million – scored the only goal of the game  at Broadfield Stadium.

His strike means he has now been on target in each of his last four League One fixtures.
