Rancho Calaveras, CA — With the temperatures cooling, more and more people are using wood-fired stoves and fireplaces. On Sunday, the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Department responded to a small vegetation fire in Rancho Calaveras caused by discarded fireplace ashes (see photo). The fire department reports that it is important to keep completely cooled ashes in a covered metal container (placed at least 10 feet away from structures). Also, never discard ashes in dry vegetation, or in plastic garbage cans, or cardboard boxes.
